Thoughts

Winter is cold. I feel the fire blazing in the fireplace. It warms my arms as I snuggle with my kittens. Winter means school, and friendship. It also means happiness, kindness, and laughter. I wait patiently as Dad builds up the fire again. The Inauguration is on the television. I hear our new President's voice over the din of the cats fighting, my sister shaking bells, and Dad and Mom yelling for quiet, struggling to be heard over the cacophony of bells, meows, and scrabbling of cat nails against the wood floor. All is quiet for a moment, as my sister looks up, the cats are scared down into the basement, and the only noise the soft television. Mom turns up the volume, and I feel important. I have just witnessed a historic event. I will never forget this perfect Winter day.

Blue skies turning gray

I can’t go outside to play

I hope the blue sky will return

Our crops should earn

A chance to thrive and bloom

I hope springtime comes soon.
